How to balance Pitta dosha: Preparation for Summer

Diet:

  • Favour cooling and hydrating foods such as fresh fruits (watermelon, pears, grapes), leafy green vegetables, cucumber, coconut water, and coriander.

  • Avoid or minimize hot, spicy, and oily foods, as well as acidic fruits (such as oranges, grapefruits, and pineapples).

  • Include sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes in your meals. These can be found in foods like sweet potatoes, broccoli, zucchini, quinoa, and lentils.

  • Drink plenty of room temperature or cool water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Routine:

  • Wake up early in the morning, preferably before sunrise.

  • Engage in gentle exercises such as yoga, swimming, or walking during the cooler parts of the day.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and seek shade when the sun is strongest.

  • Establish a regular sleep schedule and aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night.

Lifestyle:

  • Practice stress management techniques like meditation, deep breathing exercises, or calming activities to keep Pitta in check.

  • Avoid excessive competition, overwork, and excessive heat exposure.

  • Take breaks and find time for leisure activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

  • Surround yourself with calming and cooling environments.

Herbal Support:

  • Drink herbal teas that help balance Pitta dosha, such as mint, fennel, coriander, or chamomile tea.
